Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury.

Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) in British Columbia are health care professionals committed to restoring and maintaining optimal health and pain-free function of the body. They are educated and trained to accurately assess and treat with techniques that include massage and manual therapy, joint mobilization, hydrotherapy, and rehabilitative exercise such as stretching, strengthening, postural exercise and patient education. Massage Therapy is an effective approach to pain management and rehabilitation. RMTs are effective in treating and providing relief for a wide range of conditions such as migraine headaches, tendonitis, arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, as well as many other common conditions related to soft tissue and joint dysfunction.

Originally from Moncton, NB, I graduated from Mount Allison University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. After spending several years in sales and marketing, I made the decision to go back to school and pursue a career in Massage Therapy. After graduating in 2005 from the Sutherland-Chan School and Teaching Clinic in Toronto, I moved to Calgary where I was fortunate to have worked at the Lindsay Park Sport Physiotherapy Clinic. This opportunity provided me with great exposure to a wide variety of clients with conditions ranging from whiplash and frozen shoulder to post surgical rehab and repetitive strain injuries. I moved to Vancouver in the fall of 2006 where I was able to continue my work in a multi-disciplinary clinic environment at Total Therapy Rehabilitation and Wellness in Burnaby. In 2008, I moved my primary practice to City Wellness Centre where I have the privilege of working with a professional and dedicated group of healthcare practitioners including Dr. David Numerow, DC, Dan Cohen, RMT, and Vienna Ng, RMT.

My decision to make a career change and reinvent myself as a massage therapist developed out of a passion, desire and on-going interest in helping people, seeing measurable results and contributing to their overall health and well being. I feel my business background and my massage therapy education compliment each other as I’m able to communicate very well with my clients and listen to their individual needs and concerns.

My practice of massage therapy is supported and complemented by my own personal pursuit of yoga, running, hiking, cycling, rollerblading and other recreational activities as well as my volunteer work at the Vancouver Sun Run, BMO Vancouver Marathon and as an RMT for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.

While I am trained in the treatment of various conditions, I am particularly interested in the assessment and treatment of TMJ/Jaw pain, post surgical rehab for knee and hip replacements, chronic headache symptoms and I am always looking for educational opportunities to help continue to develop my skills as a Massage Therapist. I also endeavour to experience many other modalities on my own so that I can recommend and discuss options intelligently with my clients.
